HOFMEYR NEWS - The funeral of the two teenagers, Cwenga Qashani (15) and Inathi Menzi (17), were attended by more than 800 friends and community members on Saturday 7 January in Hofmeyr.
The two girls died whilst attending Cwenga's 15th birthday party at the Razzmatazz Tavern in Twinsville, Hofmeyr. A third friend's funeral was held in her hometown near Mthata.
"The funeral service was held after a procession through Hofmeyr town at the Chris Hani Community Hall in Eluxolweni. No representatives from the Government were present, but our families appreciated the presence of Mr Buthi Quqa, the Councillor of Hofmeyr," reports Simphiwe Qashani, brother of the late Cwenga Qashani.
"Bendi Ntoni made a speech on behalf of HDI (# Sebenza Mhlali) representing the youths of Hofmeyr. His message was aimed at the youths in our town, who need assistance to find direction."
The Razzmatazz Tavern is still closed but has been badly vandalised since the incident on Christmas day. The Advertiser will report on the court proceedings.
