HOFMEYR NUUS - Na aanleiding van inligting wat op sosiale media meegedeel is, en 'n verklaring deur die SAPD se Oos Kaapse Mediaverteenwoordiger, Tembinkosi Kinana, is daar op navrae bevestig dat drie jeugdiges, vermoedelik in hul 20's, vroeg vanoggend, tussen 01:00 en 01:30 gesterf het in die Razzmatazz Tavern in Twinsvile, Hofmeyr.
'n Groot aantal jeugdiges is per ambulans na Cradock-hospitaal geneem en drie ernstige gevalle is reeds na hospitale in Gqeberha geneem.
Een persoon is in hegtenis geneem, en daar word nog na 'n tweede verdagte gesoek, wat volgens inligting 'n vloeistof in die taverne gespuit het voor die tragedie plaasgevind het. 'n Volledige polisieverklaring word afgewag, terwyl ouers by Cradock hospitaal wag vir antwoorde.
Kinana meld dat die Hofmeyr SAPD en die Forensiese Departement saamwerk met Boeta van Heerden, die eienaar van die Taverne, om antwoorde te vind na gebeure vroeg vanoggend.
Gesinne van oorledenes het versoek dat name weerhou word totdat breër families in kennis gestel is.
Hofmeyr SAPD vra dat enige verdere inligting deurgegee word aan SAPD Hofmeyr by 048 885 0135.

POLICE PROBE INQUEST AFTER TAVERN DEATHS IN HOFMEYR
Date: 26 December 2022
HOFMEYR: The SAPS in the Eastern Cape has registered an Inquest docket for investigation after three (3) female children died in the Tavern on Saturday night of 25 December 2022 in Hofmeyr.
Preliminary report suggests that the incident was reported to the local police after children in their 20’s were allegedly sprayed with an unknown substance in the tavern. They allegedly died at the scene.
The circumstances including the cause of death of the children will form part of the investigation. We do not want to make any speculations on the incident to safeguard the sensitive nature of the ongoing investigation.
The suspect has not been identified and therefore not known at this stage, however the investigation is continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
