GRAAFF-REINET — Over the last two weeks, Union Preparatory School and the High School Junior Department have had their inter-house athletics days as well as Inter-schools against Volkskool on Tuesday afternoon.
In perfect weather conditions, Union's beautiful school fields were a hive of activity where athletes were involved in a total of 62 events, ranging from U.7 to U.13, involving field and track events. Many of the races were closely contested, making it difficult for the place judges.During the Inter-schools meeting 16 new records were set, 7 by Union athletes.
Congratulations to the following learners on setting new records:
• Ciara Kivedo: U.9 60m
• Daniel Short: U.9 60m and 80m
• Chloe Erasmus: U.10 Long Jump
• Fatima Siraz: U.10 1200m
• Sisipho Arnols: U.13 100m and Long Jump
At the Inter-schools meeting, the final points position was: Union 613 and LVS 654.
A small group of Union athletes, from U.10 to U.13, then took part in the Zonal Athletics Meeting at the Collie Koeberg Track on Friday. They all did their best and the school awaits the official results to see who will be invited to the Mega Districts Meeting in Port Elizabeth on February 17.
