NATIONAL NEWS - South Africans are in for a celestial treat tonight when a rare total lunar eclipse, better known as a blood moon, will be visible across the country.
The total lunar eclipse will be visible on Sunday, 7 September.
This is the longest total lunar eclipse since 2022 and one of the more dramatic ones this decade.
The moon will turn a deep red – the classic ‘blood moon’ effect – offering an unforgettable sight.
The eclipse stages are safe to observe with the naked eye. Binoculars or telescopes can enhance details, but are not necessary.
The moon enters Earth's outer shadow between 17:28 and 17:30, the partial eclipse begins at 18:26 and the full blood moon begins at 19:30.
It will peak between 20:11 and 20:12 and ends by 20:52.
