GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - In a remarkable display of determination and hard work, Kamvelihle Klassen emerged as the top student at Nqweba Secondary, achieving four distinctions in NSC examinations for 2024.
Klassen's successful journey has been marked by "countless, countless, countless" hours of dedication.
Despite setting a goal to achieve a pass rate of 95% for the Class of 2024, the school's average pass rate was 86,4%, 2,2% lower than 2023's average of 88.6%.
Principal Zanovuyo Mdingi expressed his disappointment but reaffirmed the school's commitment to topping the 90% mark in future.
"It was not our wish to experience this decline, but we remain hopeful and dedicated to improve our results," he stated.
A total of 88 learners participated in the examinations, with 28 learners qualifying for bachelor degrees and 24 for diplomas.
Kamvelihle Klassen said doing so well wasn't easy, but believes her achievement is a stepping stone to many more successes to come.
Klassen has been accepted at the University of Johannesburg to study a B Comm in Industrial Psychology.
She credited her success to the unwavering support of her family, friends, and mentors. "It would never have been possible without the village behind me - my mother, my family, and friends.
"A special thanks to Mr Rodney Diza, my mathematics educator, and everyone who never gave up on me," she said.
Klassen obtained distinctions in Geography, Life Science, isiXhosa HL, and English FAL. With her parents having named her Kamvelihle and Khanyisa, she believes the names - meaning Light of Power - are a prophetic reflection of her life journey.
As Nqweba Secondary School looks ahead, they remain steadfast in their ambition to propel their students toward greater achievements, embodying the spirit of resilience and dedication to education.
