GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Graaff-Reinet Museum welcomed the learners of the Khanyisa Day Care Centre on their annual visit to Reinet House on 30 September.
“A lively group of 48 excited little ones went on a walkabout through the museum – asking questions, showing wonderful curiosity, and even entertaining us with one of their favourite songs, “Jesus is Mine”, report the museum staff.
“After the hard work of colouring in, they proudly recited the months of the year in isiXhosa – what fun it was!”
The staff say that Khanyisa Day Care Centre brightened up their day.
“We look forward to seeing them again next year, as they are annual visitors.”
Anziske Kayster, managing director of the museum, informed Graaff-Reinet Advertiser that 12 schools visited the museum as part of the Kids in Parks programme.
"Kids in Parks" refers to both a South African government initiative and a US-based programme designed to connect children with nature and heritage.
The South African Kids in Parks Programme provides educational, three-day excursions to national parks for disadvantaged learners, focusing on biodiversity and cultural heritage.
The US Kids in Parks programme offers a national network of track trails, encouraging families to explore public land and providing free adventure-based learning and prizes to promote outdoor activity and health.
This programme also gives kids the opportunity to visit heritage sites and museums.
