KAROO NEWS - Participants in the Learner Ambassador programme, launched recently by the Eastern Cape Liquor Board (ECLB) in partnership with the Eastern Cape Legislature on underage drinking, attended a capacity-building workshop at Spandau Secondary School on 13 September.
The learners participating in the programme will be trained and equipped with mentoring and peer education skills and be provided with various forms of promotional material to assist them in driving the campaign within their schools.
The Eastern Cape Liquor Board said that they endeavour to mitigate underage drinking.
The ECLB has adopted five schools in the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality, three secondary schools and two primary schools. The ambassadors will be capacitated about their mandate during programmes about underage drinking.
Teachers at the schools have been tasked with choosing learners who show shining leadership skills.
The learners who have been chosen are role models to others, know "right" from "wrong" and show a greater sense of respect to everyone, including their parents and teachers.
