KAROO NEWS - The Slow Food Karoo Chefs Alliance has started a new initiative: a celebration of our local produce in the form of The Great Karoo Lamb Braai.
Locally produced lamb cuts will be prepared outdoors on fires and coals for participating members of the public. The inaugural function will be held in Graaff-Reinet on Saturday, 27 October from 12:00 till 16:30.
Like-minded local chefs, who are affiliated to the International Slow Food Movement, will be doing nose to tail cooking over coals. The philosophy or motto behind Slow Food is “good, clean and fair”.
This means that care is taken to all concerned in the food process, from mother earth, to the animals and all other living entities in between, right to the person consuming the produce at the end of the chain.
This will be a lunch time braai, with a wine tasting by De Krans Wines, in the beautiful grounds of Klub Libertas in Bourke Street, Graaff-Reinet.
There will also be a market selling farm produce and local crafts at the same time- a great atmosphere, spectacular views and great company. Lucky draw prizes will be up for grabs at the event too. The whole family is welcome.
Anyone wishing to enquire about the event can contact the organisers on tasteotkaroo@gmail.com.
“Join us and book your tickets or a table at the market, celebrate our ordinary with us, celebrate our farmers and our close knitted community -together we can show the world the true meaning of holistic living” said organiser Rose Wright.
