GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Graaff-Reinet Museum conducted its Annual General Meeting on 18 November.
In his Chairman’s Report, Peter Whitlock emphasised that it is a "massive blessing and cause from immense gratitude that they have weathered the Covid-19 storm and entered a period of relative normalcy in a generally sound condition and with important positive mileposts to their credit."
The Chairman expressed immense gratitude towards the Rupert Historic Homes Foundation for the extraordinary lifeline in the form of the Covid-19 relief grant that carried them through the lean period of lockdown and even allowed them the luxury of special projects.
He also acknowledged with heartfelt appreciation the role of Anziske Kayster in ensuring the underlying stability of the Museum under extremely stressful conditions, the fidelity of the staff notwithstanding personal tribulation, and the moral support and fortitude of the Board when everything appeared to be lost.
Don van Wyk, from the auditing firm Van Wyk Theron, commended the museum for how it managed its finances during the pandemic. The financial statements indicate a sound state of affairs under competent museum management.
During the AGM two subscribers' representatives, who represents the Friends of the Museum Association, were elected and Liesl King and Brian Hough were re-elected.
The rest of the Board of Trustees consists of 9 representatives appointed by the MEC of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, a councillor of the local municipality and one of the district municipality.
The current Board of Trustees was appointed in 2019 and serves a term of five years. Peter Whitlock is the Chairman and Anziske Kayster is an ex officio member.
