GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Up until last year, the Summit had only been hosted in main centres around South Africa and WCSA have responded to the call to make this world-class leadership event available to the rural areas where leaders have very little opportunity to access such events.
Fifty volunteers from the Karoo Community and the Assembly of God Churches, served 200 delegates from Graaff-Reinet and the greater Karoo, from both the church and business, who were able to engage with world-class input from the 2016 GLS faculty.
The Global Leadership Summit (GLS), is a two-day leadership event with remote attendance of approximately 170 000 worldwide, telecast annually in August from Willow Creek’s campus in Chicago.
Founded in 1992, the Willow Creek Association (WCA) is the organization behind The Global Leadership Summit. They serve pioneering pastors and leaders around the world by curating inspirational leadership, intentional skill development and experiences that help local churches thrive.
Willow Creek state, “We're convinced that effective, Christ-centred leadership is critical to advancing the Kingdom of God on earth. We believe that the Church is at the centreof this plan.
However, the influence and impact of the church are felt most fully when everyone that's a part of a church is fully living out the life God has called them to live.
This includes leaders from business, government, education, non-profits and multiple other spheres of influence. That's why leaders from all over the world gather together at The Global Leadership Summit and come together to fuel our passion and sharpen our leadership skills.”
Bill Hybels started the GLS in 1995 as an annual training event for church, ministry and other leaders to sharpen their skills.
The Global Leadership Summit exists to transform Christian leaders around the world with an injection of vision, skill development, and inspiration for the sake of the local church. The Summit telecasts live from the campus of Willow Creek Community Church near Chicago, reaching 100’s of premier host sites across the United States. In the months following, the Summit moves into +1, 375 sites in 128 countries (60 languages) across the globe via videocast.
Each year, this event features experts in the arena of leadership in lecture and interview formats.
Worship music and dramas are also incorporated into the event. Speakers for the 2017 event are: Bill Hybels (Snr Pastor Willow Creek Community Church), Sheryl Sandberg (COO Facebook), Marcus Buckingham (Author, Founder The Marcus Buckingham Company), Bryan Stevenson (Founder & Executive Director, Equal Justice Initiative), Juliet Funt (CEO, Whitespace at Work), Marcus Lemonis (Star of NBC’s The Profit; CEO of Camping World and Good Sam), Angela Duckworth (Professor, University of Pennsylvania; Best-selling Author), Laszlo Bock (Senior Advisor, Google; Best-selling Author), Immaculée Ilibagiza (Advocate for Peace and Forgiveness; Best-selling Author), Gary Haugen (Founder & CEO, International Justice Mission), Fredrik Härén (Author; Business Creativity Expert), Andy Stanley (Leadership Author; Communicator, Pastor), Sam Adeyemi (Founder and Senior Pastor, Daystar Christian Centre in Nigeria).
