GRAAFF-REINET BUSINESS NEWS - A group of stakeholders is hard at work to introduce e-learning in Graaff Reinet schools, which could come at no better time than during lockdown.
For the last three and a half years, the e-learning project (amongst other much-needed educational interventions) has been sponsored by the Johann and Gaynor Rupert Foundation.
Several stakeholders are supporting the project, including The Department of Education Eastern Cape, The Graaff Reinet DOE District Office (Mr Pierre de Villiers and his team), The DOE District Manager (Mrs Singeti), Graaff Reinet School Principals, Teachers, BlueSky (Mr Roland Kroon), and now the school students from the Graaff Reinet schools.
The project is managed by Ben Bredenkamp (Pendula ICT), and partners (Scadco and Microsoft SA).
The team has created an e-learning vision for Graaff Reinet schools, and with the help of the Department of Education, provided every teacher with a laptop, built ICT infrastructure at schools, provided internet connectivity at each school, and trained teachers in modern teaching and learning skills. Now the focus is on learners at home.
Last week, the Project Team introduced Microsoft Teams Online Training for teachers.
There were three courses daily for the entire week, and most of the 200 Graaff Reinet school teachers attended the training; all this from the comfort of their homes!
During lockdown, the Project Team is rolling out the Microsoft TEAMS Communication Plarform for schools, assisting teachers in creating the online classroom, and building the communication bridge between teacher and student at home.
This week, we will launch an Android Microsoft TEAMS App for students that will assist students at home to communicate with their teachers and schools. Students will receive this app free. More details on this will follow.
To make this project a success, parents and students need to submit their contact details to the relevant schools, so that their teachers can keep in touch with them during this period. Only do this if the school doesn't have your details, or if these details have changed.
Our thanks to the Johann and Gaynor Rupert Foundation for the support and opportunity.
Contact Ben Bredenkamp (079 490 1820) for any queries.
