Roadrunner, Graaff-Reinet writes:
Only two weeks ago this section of Park Road in Graaff-Reinet was repaired by the Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality, however it seems the use of incorrect materials has proven the task useless.
The rods in the concrete slabs are smooth and doesn't bind with the concrete. The rods are meant to be in the middle of the slab and not on the top/bottom. The concrete mixture seems inferior as it is powdery to the touch.
This section of Park Road has continuous problems that are exasperated by blockages of the Mackie's Pit lead water under these concrete slabs.
A workable solution needs to be found!
The municipality responds:
The initial repairs were just temporary. The broken slabs have since been replaced. Quality control measures have been put into place to ensure that high quality concrete slabs are produced in the future. The workmanship will also be monitored to make sure that an efficient service is delivered to the community.
