NATIONAL NEWS - The City of Cape Town says its plans to augment water supply amid critical shortages are well under way.
Mayor Patricia De Lille says the municipality has already submitted water license applications to the Department of Water and Sanitation to operate desalination technology.
Addressing a full council meeting on Thursday, De Lille said that Capetonians were still using too much water.
To augment water supply by 500 million litres per day, the city plans to procure desalination technology that will produce 350 million litres of water a day.
A further 100 million litres will be extracted from ground water sources and 50 million litres from water reuse.
