NATIONAL NEWS - Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga says the country urgently needs to create its own unique way of teaching maths to demystify the perception that South African children are not mathematically inclined.
The Basic Education Department has convened a three-day indaba, aimed at addressing and improving the outcomes and performance of maths and science.
The minister says innovative ways need to be explored to address poor learning outcomes in mathematics.
“We’re all working in different ways, but we’re not getting the traction that we want.”
She has reminded parents of their responsibility to stimulate their children’s minds at a very young age.
