Update
HOFMEYR NEWS - The family of Cwenga Qashani, represented by Simphiwe Qashani, informed the Advertiser today that they were informed by Lt.Detective Ntsimango, at Cradock SAPD, that the post mortems were completed by Tuesday afternoon, 3 January.
"We were told that my sister and her two friends died because they landed on the floor during the stampede by patrons at the Razzmatazz Tavern in Twinsville, Hofmeyr. This stampede occured after a 'strong smelling gas' was sprayed into the air at the Tavern on Christmas evening, during my sister's 15th birthday celebrations. According to the Lieutenant no remnants of the gas could be traced but they were trampled to death. I believe that up to a hundred patrons were in the tavern at that stage, " reports Simphiwe Qashani from his parent's home in Eluxolweni, Hofmeyr.
"We were also notified that both the manager, as well as his assistant are still in custody. They appeared in the court in Nthabathemba magistrates court on Tuesday. The person who sprayed the 'gas' has not yet been detained."
A memorial service was held locally on Wednesday and the Chris Hani Community hall was filled to the brim on a rainy morning.
The two girls who are from Hofmeyr will be buried in Hofmeyr on Saturday 7 January. Their 25yr old friend will be buried near her parent's home close to Mthata, as she was just visiting Hofmeyr over Christmas."
