LIFESTYLE NEWS - Here are three ways in which you can give your metabolism the boost that it may need:
Drink water!
Ensure that you are well hydrated as studies have shown that even mild dehydration can reduce your metabolic rate by two percent.
“Researchers at the University of Utah, who monitored the metabolic rates of adults as they drank varying amounts of water per day, found that those who drank” more glasses of water daily had higher metabolic rates than those who had drank half of that amount. Bottom line – stay well hydrated!
Do a workout!
Exercise is a brilliant way to get your metabolism revived as it helps to build muscle, which in turn speeds up our metabolism. If you do not know where to start or how to put a suitable workout routine together for yourself, seek the assistance of a physical trainer. They may be available at your local gym.
Always remember to consult with your doctor before starting any new exercise regime or making intense changes to your current one – especially if you suffer from any medical conditions and for some reason are required not to place your body or yourself under any form of stress or strain.
Consume small but frequent meals
Instead of having three big meals a day, try eating small meals more frequently as it will help keep your metabolism in “high gear, and that means you’ll burn more calories overall.”
Note that this does not imply eating more food – portion control is still very important and should not be forgotten! You will find that you will eat less food but at more regular intervals.
