KAROO NEWS - The chairperson of the Eastern Cape House of Traditional Leaders (ECHTL), Nkosi Mwelo Nonkonyana, was precautionary suspended.
It is understood that Nonkonyana attended the funeral of a relative which had a crowd of more than 50 people.
The Eastern Cape Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister, Xolile Nqatha, placed Nonkonyana on suspension on 23 April, based on allegations of contravening Covid-19 lockdown regulations. The suspension will remain in force pending the outcome of the investigation.
The deputy chairperson of the house, Nkosi Langa Mavuso, will act in the absence of Nonkonyana.
"It is of the view that the decision taken is in the interest of the chairperson himself, the provincial house and the entire Eastern Cape government to flatten the curve against Covid-19," said Nqatha.
