GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — The Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) will be hosting several events during National Science Week (NSW) to promote science in secondary schools within the Graaff Reinet district.
The programme entitled “Deepening our Democracy through Science” will run from 30 July to 4 August.
The programme will be presented on a different day at each of the five Graaff-Reinet high schools. Various curriculum content presentations will be made by teachers, using technology, with relevant references to IT skills and career options.
All teachers, learners and parents are invited to participate in the programme on Saturday, 4 August, at Spandau Secondary School, which will be directed specifically at Grade 10 to 12 learners.
First on the agenda will be a panel discussion on alternative sources of renewable energy, from 09:00 to 12:00. The panel will consist of experts in the field of hydroelectricity, solar energy, and wind energy, together with a representative involved with social policy.
After the discussion, from 12:00 to 14:00, visitors are encouraged to spend time at the various exhibits. These include Lego Education, Johann and Gaynor Rupert Foundation – Bursaries, Veactive, Noupoort Wind Farm, Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), and Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf).
