GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - A park on Park Street, Graaff-Reinet, is no place for fun; left in a filthy state, with no action from the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality to clean the area.
"I've had enough of this horrible park near my house," one resident told the Graaff-Reinet Advertiser.
She keeps the side of the park near her house clean but says that this shouldn't be her responsibility. "Why do I pay taxes, for municipal salary increases?"
The resident added that she has lived on Park Street for nearly three years, during which time she only saw the municipality clean the park once or twice.
"The park is not maintained, and playground equipment is broken." Furthermore, the resident said that a neighbour now locks the park's gate in the evening, as it has become a hang-out spot for unwanted evening activities. Condoms are often left in the park, as well as broken glass.
"This is a health risk," the resident added, stating that it is in no way a safe space for children.
The municipality failed to comment in time for print.
