BUSINESS NEWS - The nail and beauty salon industry is very attractive to investors.
Not only is it a well-established industry with a proven track record, but with most investors in this industry being women, a passion for the industry and what it represents already exists, making it easier to embrace the industry as a vehicle for owning and operating a business.
Although there are already numerous nail and beauty salons in existence in the industry, with many different operating models ranging from one-off salons to franchised groups, differentiation is possible, especially with a brand that is already well-known within the industry for its innovative approach to nail and beauty salons, not only in South Africa, but globally.
Tammy Taylor Nails has been in South Africa since 2013, when President and Founder of Tammy Taylor Nails South Africa Melany Viljoen brought this unique concept to the country.
It was after searching for nail tutorials on YouTube that Melany found Tammy Taylor, and decided to pay her a visit in the USA, where the salon brand has been flourishing since 1983. Melany quickly secured the sole ownership and distributorship of the brand in South Africa, returning to start her franchise concept with her own salon in Pretoria. The franchise grew rapidly, and now boasts over forty salons across the country.
From the start, Melany wanted to offer salon clients something different – a unique and stylish twist on the standard salon offering in the country.
"The Tammy Taylor Nails brand is all about quality and elegance coupled with value for money, and an experience that leaves each client feeling like a queen," she says. "When we brought the brand to South Africa almost a decade ago, we wanted to ensure that we offered something special – not just your average salon."
This commitment to offering only the best extends into the chain's franchise offering too. "When someone decides to purchase a Tammy Taylor Nails franchise, we want them to understand that they are now part of our family, and that we will go above and beyond to help them make their business a success," explains Melany. "We want the service we offer to our franchisees to reflect the service we offer to our clients – they also need to feel like the queens that they are."
This "not your average" service starts with assisting new franchisees to scout for the correct location for their new salon, as well as assistance with lease negotiations. "This can be a challenging process for franchisees, and we want to help ensure it is as seamless as possible," says Melany. "The right location is critical for any salon, and we understand that there are many variables to be considered in this important decision."
The franchisor also assists with professional 3D renders of the final shopfitting for each salon, bringing in elements unique to each salon, and providing franchisees with a realistic idea of what their salon will look like, before any construction work begins. "It is important for our franchisees to be able to envisage what their salon will look like before we start with shopfitting," says Melany. "This means a smoother construction process with fewer delays, and a realistic estimation of a launch date can then be adhered to. Too often, one hears of salon owners who are not happy with the way their shopfitting turned out, all because there was no concrete plan in place before the process was begun."
Tammy Taylor Nails South Africa also assists franchisees with all of their training, recruitment, equipment, product stock, uniform and marketing requirements. "We believe in providing a holistic service that is truly end-to-end," concludes Melany. "We take our clients' investments seriously, and are as committed to their success as they are."
