GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — On Tuesday, July 26, and Wednesday, July 27, Graaff-Reinetters can discover the distinguished taste of the three Rupert & Rothschild Wines.
Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons were created through a partnership by the late Dr Anton Rupert of South Africa and the late Baron Edmond de Rothschild of France. Their vision and guiding principles were carried forward by their sons, the late Anthonij Rupert and Baron Benjamin de Rothschild.
Today the Rupert family and Baron Benjamin de Rothschild share this prestigious partnership in wine production.
The wine tasting on the Tuesday evening - which will be accompanied by cheese boards - will be hosted by Debra Savage, international marketing manager at Rupert & Rothschild, in the Drostdy Hotel's De Camdeboo Wijnkamer. The evening costs R120 per person and bookings can be made at The Wine Shop from 9am to 5pm.
Then, on Wednesday, July 27, Savage will host a food and wine pairing at the De Camdeboo Restaurant at the Drostdy Hotel.
Here, a four course meal - prepared by executive chef Labarre Smit - will be paired with Rothschild Champagne and Rupert & Rothschild wine.
The dinner menu starts with an amuse buche of tempura prawns with sweetcorn velouté, red onion, tomato and cucumber salsa paired with Champagne Barons de Rothschild Brut. This is followed by a starter of pan fried quail with a herb gnocchi served with sautéed wild mushrooms, balsamic beets and garden parsley pesto accompanied by the Rupert & Rothschild Baroness Nadine 2015. The main course is slow roasted lamb shank with mashed potatoes, baby vegetables and gremolata jus served with the Rupert & Rothschild Baron Edmond 2012.
To top it all off, the dessert - caramelia chocolate fondant with granadilla sorbet and fresh berries - will be accompanied by the Rupert & Rothschild Classique 2013.
The dinner costs R350 per person. For more information or to make a booking, please call The Wine Shop at 049 892 2161.
