INTERNATIONAL NEWS - The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has confirmed today that they have retested 454 selected doping samples from the 2008 Olympics in Beijing following work with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and international federations.
As a result, 31 athletes from six sporting codes whose samples formed part of the 454, could now be banned from taking part in the 2016 Games in Rio.
The aim is to stop any drugs cheats coming to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The IOC has used the latest scientific analysis methods to conduct retests on 454 doping samples from Beijing that could have a significant impact ahead of this year’s Rio Olympics.
In a shock finding, 31 athletes have returned positive results which could see them sanctioned, while the IOC has also agreed to initiate proceedings against the 12 national committees concerned.
