KAROO NEWS - A Karoo tour, Vincent, his quest to love and be loved, visited the John Rupert Theatre in Graaff-Reinet on 19 July and The Palms in Cradock on 20 July.
This tour was presented by Our Heritage Arts Hub, Graaff-Reinet Advertiser, Graaff-Reinet Tourism, Wêla Kapela Productions, The Black Sheep Restaurant and Visit Cradock.
Cradock guest house owner, Neville Prinsloo, was excited to share that an amazing audience supported the show at The Palms on an icy Cradock evening.
The show interprets the life and art of Vincent van Gogh and was presented in a dazzling new light. Actor Daniel Anderson switched between the role of narrator and Van Gogh with great expertise as the great Dutch artist speaks aloud as he writes letters to his brother Theo.
By using reimagined versions of popular musical theatre, pop, rock and jazz numbers, this production created a picture of a troubled man with a drive to create and a deep desire to love and be loved.
Jacques du Plessis accompanied Anderson by making magic on the piano.
"It was a really special experience and the audience's response was phenomenal. The crew says they can't wait to come back to Cradock with another show," says Prinsloo. "Daniel and Jacques' performance was incredible!"
The stars of the show also had a marvelous time in the Karoo.
"To the wonderful people at the John Rupert Theatre in Graaff-Reinet, thank you for inviting us into your beautiful little theatre and for opening your hearts to Vincent and his story, and to Neville Prinsloo, Carl Hendriksz, Liza Badenhorst and the marvellous team at The Palms and Our Heritage Arts Hub, what can we say? To see a team so driven to bring the arts to their community, makes us very excited! Thank you for igniting a fire for people to consume and create. We look forward to seeing the Cradock Arts Hub grow."
They also extended their heartfelt thanks to the guesthouses in Graaf-Reinet and Cradock for keeping them warm.
