GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - In celebration of Heritage Month, the Jan Rupert Art Centre in Graaff-Reinet will showcase The Lay of the Land exhibition of 20th century South African prints, paintings and sculptures.
The exhibition will open on Wednesday 18 September, at 6pm for 6.30pm.
According to a statement by the gallery, the exhibition takes its cue from the permanent exhibition currently showcased at the Hester Rupert Art Gallery, but focuses on the land and its people as imagined by prominent South African artists.
“From Cecil Skotnes’ prints, Assassination of Shaka to JH Pierneef’s Dorpstraat toneel; the loved, the familiar and the formidable are celebrated,” the gallery said.
Artists celebrated include Maggie Laubser, Irma Stern, Lucas Sithole, Sydney Kumalo, Maud Sumner, Hugo Naudé, Erik Laubscher, Ezro legae, Pieter Wenning, WH Coetzer and many more.
