GRAAFF-REINET NEWS AND VIDEO - Primary schools in Graaff-Reinet were at the ready to welcome back their Grade Seven learners this morning, 8 June.
At Thembalesizwe Primary School in Umasizakhe, staff members and learners were being screened at the gates shortly after 7am. The learners, keen to be back at school, queued neatly in their designated spots, while wearing masks.
"I'm excited to be back," said learner Lathitha Sonjica (12). Behind her in the queue were classmates Bradley Claasen (12), Othemna Hermans (13) and Chumani Hermans (15), who all said that they were happy to back, as they missed attending school.
At Laer Volkskool, volunteer Johané Verwey and Randy Williams were ready at the gate to screen learners, and staff members also disinfected the learners' school bags. Pink wigs and funny hats were also seen, as teachers dressed-up to raise learners' spirits.
Volunteer Andiswa Zolizwe at Isibane Primary school was also excited to welcome learners back. She was in charge of sanitising their hands and checking their temperatures
