Update
GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The formal bail hearing of the two murder accused, Nomphelo Maloyi and Lwazi Kay, has been scheduled for Monday 24 April.
Their appearance in the Graaff-Reinet Magistrate's Court on Wednesday 5 April was the latest in a series of court appearances since they were denied bail on Monday 12 December.
Maloyi (36) and Kay (35) stand accused of murdering Maloyi's 66-year-old uncle, Mynhardt Maloyi, in November last year.
The victim was found inside his house in Henry Street in Graaff-Reinet with multiple stab wounds to his upper body.
It is alleged that accused Maloyi asked Kay to kill him so that she could get her hands on a life insurance policy pay-out.
On 29 March, acting magistrate Tiffany Potts recused herself from the case and it has since been confirmed that magistrate Mabenge will preside over the bail hearing on 24 April.
No reasons for Potts' decision to recuse herself were given. It has also been confirmed that Maloyi will be represented by Zolile Ngqeza Attorneys from Gqeberha since PW Meyer and Associates stepped down as her legal team on 29 March.
Kay will still be represented by Nkosazana Gxumisa from Legal Aid South Africa.
