NIEU-BETHESDA NEWS — One may have felt out of place in Nieu-Bethesda on Saturday evening had you chanced upon a merry band of ladies and gentlemen dressed to the nines in wigs and gowns, making their way between 'Die Waenhuis' and the NG Kerk in the village.
'Die Waenhuis' Annual Christmas in July party took place on Saturday evening, and was a night to remember for those who attended.
Everyone gathered in the early evening for Gluwein and ginger biscuits. It was a sight to behold the effort that went into the costumes and décor for the evening. Hostess, Jackie Mills, then led everyone to the beautifully lit Church, where accomplished organist Arnu Oelofse treated his audience to a selection of Christmas and Baroque music on the historic organ.
'Die Waenhuis' was, as usual, decorated with hedonistic warmth. Floral masterpieces adorned the tables, carefully arranged by 'Mengelmoes creations' using seasonal Karoo vegetation. Chef Chris and his team's food was excellent and banter, music and dance carried on into the early hours.
The Baroque themed 'Christmas in July' was net another example of wonderful events that continue to happen in the sleepy town of Nieu-Bethesda.
