GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — The 13th annual South African National Parks Week campaign kicks off in two weeks’ time on Monday, 10 September, until Friday, 14 September.
The free entry week to national parks has once again been extended in Camdeboo National Park to include the weekend of 15 and 16 September.
SA National Parks Week provides South African citizens the opportunity to explore and appreciate South Africa’s natural heritage in a national park of their choice at no cost.
It gives day visitors free access to most of the 21 national parks, with special emphasis on ensuring that people from local communities close to parks get to know and experience a national park. It is a week which many school and other organised groups look forward to each year.
Free entry to Camdeboo allows visitors to explore the Park in its entirety.
They may choose to participate in one of the many walking trails in the Park; undertake the 4x4 trails; spend time at one of the picnic sites, along the banks of the Nqweba Dam or at the bird hide; visit the world-famous Valley of Desolation or enjoy a leisurely self-drive through the Park, making the most of its sights and sounds along the way.
Permit fees will still apply to watersport activities on the Dam and accommodation costs are also not included in the free access.
Other parks in the region participating in the campaign include Addo Elephant (outside Port Elizabeth), Mountain Zebra (near Cradock) and Karoo National Parks (Beaufort West).
Addo Elephant will not be extending their free entry outside of 10 to 14 September, while Mountain Zebra and Karoo National Parks will allow the first 100 day visitors through their gates free access on both Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 September.
SA National Parks Week is made possible through generous partners, Total South Africa and FNB.
