GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Four suspects, aged 21, 24, 26 and 28 in the burglary at the Graaff-Reinet municipal traffic offices on Somerset Street, were denied bail on 23 June.
The burglary took place at approximately 03.30 am on 8 June.
The burglars gained entrance to the building by breaking down the back door. They stole ammunition and 11 guns, with a safe. Other durable equipment, like computers and accessories, were also stolen.
The safe was found later that day, forced open behind the SPCA. Two days after the burglary the police made a breakthrough, arresting four suspects.
Graaff-Reinet Police Spokesperson, Capt Bradley Rawlinson, said the names of the suspects are being withheld because of the sensitivity of the investigation. He said the police are following up on information on the other stolen items.
"Due to the investigation their names will be released at a later stage," said Rawlinson.
The investigating officer, Warrant Officer Harold Kruger, is appealing to the public to contact him with any information to try and trace the missing firearms. Anyone with further information can contact Kruger on 049 807 0066 or 073 508 8049.
