GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The police are still on the hunt for thieves who broke into the Graaff-Reinet municipal traffic offices. The suspects got away with 11 guns and a load of ammunition.
Police spokesperson, captain Bradley Rawlinson, confirmed that a burglary docket is opened for investigation. The burglary took place at approximately 3.30am on 8 June.
The back door was broken to gain entrance.
Except for the safe, computers and equipment as well as vehicle keys were stolen.
On behalf of the municipality, acting municipal spokesperson Edwardine Abader declined to comment.
The safe was filled with the firearms, which includes two shotguns, five .38 special revolvers, four 9mm pistols and all the ammunition. The safe was found forced open behind the SPCA, close to two houses.
Rawlinson said GAP security, who was on duty with two guards at the traffic offices, alerted the standby officer when they found the door broken open.
GAP security referred all inquiries to their head office.
