ABERDEEN NEWS — Six cases of housebreaking and theft were opened in the last week with the Aberdeen police. Most of these did not involve goods with a high value, but nonetheless, the number of crimes gives rise for concern.
The first one happened on August 17 in Thembalesizwe, from a house in Zingisa Street. A flat screen 32cm Hi-Sense television was taken, along with some electric cable. The padlock securing the back door of the house had been broken off.
Four of the cases happened in Lotusville. The first, in Malva Street, occurred sometime between August 14 and August 17. A window was forced open, and a kettle and some crockery were taken.
On August 18, two tool boxes and a variety of hand tools and accessories were taken from a house in Petunia Street after a back window was broken. The value of these goods is approximately R1 000.
Next to be targeted, on August 19, was a house in Koggemander Street. The owner had been away in Cape Town for work, and left the house locked and secure. On his return, there was no sign of forced entry, but he on entering the house, he found that cupboards, a dressing table, and light bulbs had been taken. All the windows were still intact, and the door was still padlocked. It is suspected that the suspect had probably used a key from another padlock, as often the cheaper locks are not unique, and one key can be used for many locks. The value of these goods was given at just under R3 000.
The final case in Lotusville happened at a shop owned by a foreign national. He had left the property for an hour between 07:00 and 08:00 on August 21, and while he was gone, somebody forced the security gate open and kicked the door open. Groceries, toiletries and a small amount of cash were taken, totaling about R600.
The final housebreaking and theft case happened on August 22 at Moertoe Restaurant on the outskirts of town. Once again a security gate had been forced open, and the door kicked open. It has been impossible to determine what, if anything, has been taken at this stage, as the building has been empty for several months had very little of any value inside.
A case of theft was opened after a large quantity of firewood, valued at R3 000, was taken from the farm Vlakplaas.
All of these cases are still under investigation, and there are no suspects at this stage. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Welcome Tiya, on 072 062 8561.
