GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Graaff-Reinet police made a breakthrough when a suspect (26) was arrested yesterday, Sunday 11 July, in connection with the brutal murder of 57-year-old Karen Marais.
Karen, the wife of local doctor Albertus Marais, died on Thursday morning, 8 July, after sustaining stab wounds during a break-in at her house.
Marais confronted an unknown man in her house in Somerset Street at approximately 06:00 on Thursday morning.
She chased the suspect to the back of the house where a struggle ensued and she was stabbed in the shoulder.
Her daughter, who was with her at the time of the attack, managed to take her mother back into the house after which she collapsed. She was rushed to the Midlands Hospital where she succumbed to her wounds.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Graaff-Reinet Magistrate's Court later today where he will face a charge of murder.
