GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Police are investigating the murder of a 57-year-old woman after the deceased had sustained stab wounds to the left shoulder after confronting an unknown man at their residence in Somerset Street, Graaff Reinet, at about 06:00 this morning.

It is alleged that in the early hours of Thursday 8 July Graaff-Reinet police were informed of an attack at the residence of Doctor AP Marais. 

The Police were informed that an unknown man had entered the house and was noticed by the wife of Doctor Marais.

She managed to chase the intruder to the rear of the house with the assistance of her daughter and during the struggle outside the house the intruder stabbed Mrs Marais in the shoulder and ran away from the scene.

She was moved back into the house where she collapsed. Doctor Marais then transported his wife to Midlands Hospital where she succumbed to her stab wounds.
