GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - John Davies (71), the disabled man who was mugged on River Road while on his way home after shopping, said if the attacker just asked him for his groceries, he would've given it to him.
Davies spoke to the Advertiser about the ordeal, which took place on 8 April and left him with a broken hip, from his Midland hospital bed. After surgery at Livingstone Hospital in Port Elizabeth, he was transferred back to Midland on 17 April.
At about 12.30pm, Davies was walking home with groceries, when he felt something hitting his back. "I collapsed and hit the road. All I saw was a hand grabbing my groceries and heard footsteps as somebody ran away. At that moment I experienced severe pain," he remembered. An eyewitness later said she saw the suspect kick Davies in the back.
CDK Armed Response and Metro Ambulance Services rushed to the scene.
Davies is now receiving physiotherapy and is expected to be discharged from hospital by the end of this week.
The suspect is still at large.
