GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The two delivery vehicles that were hijacked on Friday evening, were en route to Graaff-Reinet to do deliveries.
The hijackings were confirmed by police spokesperson, Captain Bradley Rawlinson.
Rawlinson said the vehicles were doing deliveries in Pearston and Somerset-East before heading for Graaff-Reinet.
"It is alleged that a truck was pulled off the road between Somerset-East and Pearston at about 17.45pm by an unknown vehicle. The driver was approached by two males at gunpoint, who demanded money,” Rawlinson said.
The groceries and an undisclosed amount of money were stolen, where after the robbers fled the scene.
Moments later a bakkie, delivering stock in the same area, was hijacked. The robber drove off with the bakkie but lost control over the vehicle. It overturned and he died on the scene.
Rawlinson did not want to elaborate on the investigation as it is at a sensitive stage, but did confirm that detectives will investigate the possibility that the two cases are linked.
