GRAAFF-REINET NEWS & VIDEO - Graaff-Reinet Emergency Services' (EMS) medical expertise was put to the test with three highway accidents in one day.
• On Saturday morning 14 September, a rollback truck, carrying a tow truck, overturned on the N9 near the Cradock turnoff. The patient, a man from Pretoria, was flown by EMS helicopter to Port-Elizabeth (PE) for treatment.
The driver's identity is unknown, as well as the extent of his injuries.
It was, however, confirmed to the Advertiser that he is on the road to recovery.
The EMS helicopter airlifted the injured truck driver to Port Elizabeth.

• At about 3pm on Saturday, a local motorcyclist Roché Smit had a narrow escape when his motorbike left the road, about 2km outside Graaff-Reinet on the N9.
Smit was also transferred to PE, by ambulance. He has since returned to Graaff-Reinet and according to a friend, Melissa van der Nest, Smit suffered a broken collarbone and severe bruising. She brought him back from PE on Monday 16 September.
• On the evening of 14 September, EMS were called out to an accident on the R63 near Adendorp.
A bakkie, transporting an unknown number of passengers, overturned. When EMS arrived at the scene, the passengers ran away, leaving the injured driver behind. The driver was taken to the Midland Hospital for medical treatment and was later discharged.
