GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - A bomb threat made to Shoprite Graaff-Reinet proved to be false, police found after investigation.
"The Port Elizabeth Bomb Explosive Unit and Cradock Dog Unit went through the area and couldn’t find anything," Capt Bradley Rawlinson, Graaff-Reinet SAPS Spokesperson, told the Advertiser at 17:40.
Local police were on the scene in Caledon Street since this afternoon (20 September), after the bomb threat was made to the store shortly after 14:00.
The Advertiser reported earlier today that the threat was received via Shoprite's head office in Cape Town, who alerted local management of the threat to the Graaff-Reinet branch.
The building was evacuated and parts of Caledon Street, as well as surrounding streets, were cordoned off.
According to Rawlinson, it is unclear at this stage who made the threat. "The matter will be further investigated," he stated.
Shoprite's management thanked the SAPS for their assistance.
The Dog Unit enters Caledon Street, where a bomb threat was made to Shoprite.
Locals take in the action from a store nearby.
