GRAAFF-REINET RUGBY NEWS — Central Rugby Club played their last game of the first round last Saturday, and have ended the first round in an extremely strong position on the league table.
In the home games against Karoo Springboks from Cradock last Saturday, the 2nd Reserves once again recorded a walkover. The 1st Reserves lost 17-20 in a closely-contested game.
The first team had a slow start but gradually got hold of the game and broke through the very competitive strong forward squad of the Karoo Springboks. Central broke the line several times and scored three tries in the first half, leading comfortably at halftime with the score at 27-0 to Central.
The second half delivered some outstanding rugby, with Karoo Springboks scoring two tries and Central one try. The final score was 32-12 in Central's favour.
Central Captain Mentley Sauls dominated the game with his tactical kicks and accurate goal and penalties, and he was the obvious choice to be awarded Man of the Match.
Central has no game this coming weekend. The second round games will start on 23 June, when Central will be again playing at home at the Collie Koeberg Stadium, against Excelsiors from Middleburg.
Players of both teams congratulating each other on a great game.
