RUGBY NEWS - As one flyhalf returns for the Vodacom Bulls, another waits his fate ahead of this weekend’s Vodacom Super Rugby match against the DHL Stormers at Loftus Versfeld.
The Bulls were buoyed by the fact Tony Jantjies made his return to the training field on Monday after recovering from a rib injury, but for Springbok Handre Pollard, the uncertainty continues.
Jantjies will be available for selection for the Stormers game after he went off early in the win over the Sharks and missed the loss against the Kings on Saturday, and it will be an interesting toss-up for coach Nollis Marais whether he backs the youngster or gives Tian Schoeman his last game for the Bulls before he heads to France.
Pollard, meanwhile, will consult a specialist on Tuesday morning regarding his ankle injury, with certainty on his return to action only coming after that diagnosis.
Pollard withdrew from the SA 'A' side a few weeks back with the ankle injury complaint, but returned to training last week for the Bulls and while he got through several training sessions, the ankle is obviously still an issue for the flyhalf as he tries to get back onto the park as soon as possible after missing most of last season with a knee injury and most of this year’s Super Rugby season with the ankle complaint.
However, coach Nollis Marais has already indicated that Pollard’s Super Rugby season is over, and the flyhalf will now try and concentrate on getting himself fit for the Boks again, with a possible lead-in through the Currie Cup when he is deemed to be able to play again.
