NATIONAL NEWS - Away from the limelight of Vodacom Super Rugby last week, Springbok midfielder Rohan Janse van Rensburg felt as if he was hit by a hammer.
The hard-running midfielder had just lost his greatest fan – his mother Renthea had lost her battle against cancer - and it hit him hard.
But instead of wallowing in grief, Janse van Rensburg dug in deep, using all the determination and courage within to carry on, immediately informing his team-mates he wanted to honour his late mother by taking the field against the Waratahs for the Emirates Lions.
What followed was nothing short of exceptional. Janse van Rensburg scored his second brace of tries in as many weeks, sending shockwaves into the Australian franchise as he produced a powerful performance worthy of a tribute to his mother.
When he crossed the line he lifted his right arm and kissed his wrist – strapping with the name Renthea on it – as a tribute to his inspiration and an honour to her.
