GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — One of the oldest inter-school competitions in the country is taking place this weekend.
The annual inter-school matches between these two local schools are always the most intense of battles, with the victor receiving the bragging rights until next they meet.
Tomorrow’s game between the rugby first teams of Union High and Volkskool is the culmination of a week of festivities.
The match will kick off at 16:00 at the Botanic Sports Grounds as the swollen numbers dictate that the schools themselves cannot host this fixture.
As usual, the stands will be packed with spirited Unionites and Volksies as the game is a fitting finale to what has gone before and when it eventually gets underway it rarely disappoints.
Graaff-Reinetters can also look forward to the game between the two schools’ hockey first teams at 11:15 on Saturday morning at the UHS Astro. The U.16B teams will take to the field a little bit earlier at 08:00, followed by the U.16A teams at 08:50 and the second teams at 09:40.
The rugby matches for the day will all be contested at the Botanics, with the U.11A teams playing at 08:20, followed by the U.13A teams at 09:05, the U.14A teams at 10:05, the U.15A teams at 12:20, the U.16A teams at 13:20 and the second teams at 14:20.
