GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — The 21st rendition of the KFC Gem of the Karoo Bowls Classic took place on the greens of the Graaff-Reinet Bowling Club last weekend, October 27 to October 29.
After three 15 - ends played on Friday, the combination of Hennie Slabbert (skip, Arthur Langley (third), Chris Slabbert (second) and Niel Colyn (lead) headed the 28-team field with 53 points and + 16 shots, one point of Terry Cawood.
After round four on Saturday morning, the field was split to compete in the Cup and Plate. At the end of the day, the Slabbert combination had increased their lead over the Cawood side to 11 points.
On Sunday, the Slabbert team lost to Cawood but secured enough points to win the competition by a slender two points.
Plate Competition
Roelof van Milligan and his team made the early running in the Personal Trust Plate competition but lost on Sunday to the combination of Gert and Lizette Moore and Barbara and Johan van der Walt.
