GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Graaff-Reinet Bowling Club held it's Chosen Pairs, Men's and Ladies' competition this past weekend in temperatures in the upper 30s. The five men's and four ladies' teams played all the games on a Round Robin basis.
In the ladies section, Riana du Toit and Priscilla West came out tops for the second consecutive year - a brilliant team! Runners-up were Sonja Matthee and Charlene Colyn.
The men's section was won by Wally Koetaan and Shawn West, with Niel Colyn and Pierre Harmse runners-up.
Despite the heat, excellent bowls were played and the players ensured they countered the high temperatures with fluids, lots of ice, cooling neck towels, and even an umbrella.
In the ladies section, Du Toit and West won all three of their games, ending with 6 game points and a shot profit of +37, with Matthee and Colyn scoring 4 game points and a shot profit of +22.
In the men's section, Koetaan and West, both of whom played a very convincing tournament, ended with 8 game points, having won all four of their games, and shot profit of + 64. Colyn and Harmse ended with 4 game points and a shot profit of +7.
The next competition on the bowling calendar is the Midlands Open Singles, Seniors and Novices, Men's and Ladies', to be played at various Midlands Clubs on 13 and 14 February.
The Open Singles is to be played in Middelburg, the Seniors (Veterans) will be played in Graaff-Reinet (Ladies' Section) and Cradock (Men's Section), while the Novices will also be played in Cradock (Men's and Ladies Novices).
