BRAAFF-REINET BOWLS NEWS - Local bowling legend, Ronel Krige, has handed over the reins at the Graaff-Reinet Bowls Club after six years as president.
Francois Oosthuizen was elected new club president and Niel Colyn vice-president at the annual general meeting on Wednesday 27 November.
Krige's term may have come to an end, but not her time on the bowling green. "I just want to play the game and enjoy it," says Krige who did not make herself available for a seat on the committee.
Krige, who helped manage 23 Gem of the Karoo Classic Tournaments, was also the club's secretary for ten years. She wished the new managing committee all the best.
Joining Oosthuizen and Colyn on the new committee are Pam Neuweiler (secretary), Priscilla West (treasurer), Shawn West (caterer) and additional members Pieter Nel, Dennis Rosslee, Charlene Colyn and Pierre Harmse.
At the prize giving, Krige presented the Mali Hayward Trophy to Shaun West who was elected by the committee as the member who does the most for the club. The President's Trophy for members going beyond the call of duty went to Ivor Wakeford, Mary Prinsloo and Peter van der Berg.
The overall winners were:
Charlene Colyn (Victrix); Hansie Jordaan and Charlene Colyn (chosen mixed pairs); Marenda Luckoff and Elna de Klerk (ladies chosen pairs); Johnathan van der Rheede and Dennis Rosslee (men's chosen pairs); Priscilla West (ladies novice singles); Thinus Ferreira (men's novice singles); Riana du Toit (ladies senior singles); Chris Slabbert (men's senior singles); Charlene Colyn (ladies open singles); and Ivor Wakefield (men's open singles).
Peter van der Berg, Mary Prinsloo and Ivor Wakeford received the President's Trophy. With them is former club president, Ronel Krige.
