GRAAFF-REINET BOWLING NEWS - The Graaff-Reinet Bowling Club held its annual prizegiving on Saturday 28 November, where top bowler Elna de Klerk was awarded a whopping six prizes in total.
Throughout the year, De Klerk won the Ladies' Open Singles and Ladies' Senior Singles, and was runner up in the Mixed Chosen Pairs with teammate Ivor Wakeford.
She was second in Ladies' Chosen Pairs, with teammate Alet Slabbert. De Klerk was also awarded the Marlie Hayward Cup for a non-committee member that has done the most for the club this year. It comes as no surprise that she was also awarded Victrix Ludorum.
Ivor Wakeford earned his title of Victor Ludorum, as winner of the Men's Singles, and Men's Chosen Pairs, with teammate Hansie Jordaan. Wakeford was also second in the Men's Senior Singles.
Bowler Wally Koetaan also worked hard this year, earning first place in the Men's Singles and second in the Men's Open Singles. Koetaan also won the Mixed Chosen Pairs, with Riana du Toit. Priscilla West was first in the Ladies' Chosen Pairs and second in the Ladies' Open Singles, while Thinus Ferreira won the Men's Novices. Non-club member René Oosthuizen was also awarded a prize, for all she has done for the club.
The prizegiving was held after the Spar Pairs competition, which Bernie Prinsloo and Shawn West won. After all the formalities, the bowlers enjoyed a delicious steak braai, most probably devising their game plans for 2021.
Winners of Spar Pairs Bernie Prinsloo and Shawn West receive their prizes from Hansie Jordaan (middle) from Spar.
