GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Camdeboo Football Academy suffered a tough 3-2 defeat against Peace Makers in the Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe League clash held at the Botanics sport ground on Saturday evening, 27 January.
In this high-tempo match, Academy demonstrated strong determination, opening the score within the first 15 minutes with a goal from Lenko Mokoena. However, Peace Makers quickly levelled the score at 1-1 just two minutes later, courtesy of a well-executed cross from Khanya Hlokoma.
The first half finished with the teams tied at 2-2, each securing goals from penalties.
The second half saw both sides striving for victory, but Peace Makers successfully manoeuvred the ball into the box, securing a final score of 3-2.
Participating in the ABC Motsepe League, the second division and overall third tier of South African football, is a significant opportunity for Camdeboo FC. The league comprises 144 teams divided into nine divisions, aligning with the nine geo-political provinces of South Africa.
Each provincial division consists of 16 teams, and the winner from each division qualifies for the annual promotional play-offs.
Successful teams from the play-offs are then promoted to the National First Division.
The Camdeboo team sees it as a valuable opportunity for the local area to compete at a higher level.
Cedric Yeyana, chairperson of the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality Football Association, voiced support for Camdeboo Football Academy, suggesting that local recruitment could bolster the team's ranks. He emphasised the importance of the coaching and tactical staff scouting players from other teams to enhance overall support.
Currently situated at the bottom of the league with two points, the team is eager for a win to rise in the standings.
In addition to the featured match, local football leagues in Masizakhe, Kroonvale, Jansenville, and Aberdeen also witnessed exciting contests, contributing to the dynamic football landscape in the region.
