FOOTBALL NEWS - The Asherville Three Nations Soccer Competition played at Asherville, Graaff Reinet Primary School sports field was a huge success. Football is the most played sport code in the townships of Graaff-Reinet.
The games are usually played on Sundays in Masizakhe, Kroonvale or Santaville.
Last Sunday three clubs pooled money for a competition. Franklin George of the Future Stars FC organised the competition between Morocco Eagles FC and a new club from uMasizakhe, LEE United FC and Future Stars FC.
Retired players of Masizakhe Masters and the Kroonvale Eleven FC played a friendly match before the final. They ended up in a draw of 1 - 1.
The final was played between the LEE United FC and Morocco Eagles FC.
It was an exciting game for the spectators and a tough game for the players.
JP Lottering of Morocco Eagles said that he enjoyed the tough game. LEE United was leading the game in the first and second half but Howack Martins of the Eagles scored a goal just three minutes before the end of the game to equalize for a draw of 4 - 4.
The two teams ended up in a penalty shootout. It was for the swiftest goalkeeper to save the goal. LEE United FC beat Eagles 5 - 4.
