FOOTBALL NEWS - In a very tight rugby match at the Collie Koeberg sports grounds on Saturday 6 July, Steytlerville United achieved a nail-biting 25-22 victory against the Graaff-Reinet Giants. The league match drew local rugby lovers to Collie Koeberg, bringing rugby closer to the communities.
Steytlerville United already showed determination to win in the first half, employing impressive running and attacking skills, but the Giants were the first to cross the line, in the first ten minutes of the first half.
Steytlerville United captain Ashwin Witbooi took the reins and told his team to compose themselves and play together. The first half ended with both teams 5-5.
In the second half, the Giants tried several times to break through Steytlerville United's ranks, but their defence stood firm. The Giants made several mistakes that allowed their opponents to intercept the ball.
After the game, both teams said that it was good running rugby and praised the referee for his excellent handling of the game.
In the B team games, Graaff Reinet Giants was beaten 3-0 by Steytlerville United with a penalty kick by Enrico Geduldt in the last minute of the game. The next game of the Giants will be in Pearston on Saturday.
