GRAAFF-REINET FOOTBALL NEWS - Clubs from as far away as East London will be attending a soccer festival in Graaff-Reinet over the Easter weekend, with a feast of games for spectators to enjoy. Organised by the Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality soccer league, other visiting teams from afar will include Steytlerville and Middelburg.
The draw for the fixtures was held earlier in the week, and the 32 teams have been divided into four groups of eight teams. Each team will play the other seven teams in its group on Friday 19 April and Saturday 20 April, with matches starting at 08:00.
Two venues in Umasizakhe will be used, as well as Majestic and another venue still to be confirmed. Each group will have a home base for the round robin stage of the competition.
The quarter-finals will be played on Sunday, 21 April, and then on Monday, the semi-finals, third and fourth place play-off, followed by the final at 15:30.
There are great prizes to be won, sponsored by the municipality. The winning team will receive a trophy, a cash prize of R30 000, and a gold medal for each player. The runners up will receive silver medals, and a cash prize of R15 000, and the third-placed team will receive bronze medals and R7 500. The other losing semi-finalists will receive R4 000 for the team.
Food will be available for purchase at all venues. Hotdogs and cooldrinks will be arranged by the organising committee, and any other food vendors who would like to have a stand can contact Mr Fudhane on 078 977 5756. No vendors will be allowed at the venues without prior approval.
The gate entry fee is a token R1 per person.
All profits made on the day will be put back into the league, supporting local soccer.
