ABERDEEN FOOTBALL NEWS - Destroyers Football Club in Aberdeen is struggling financially, and manager and coach George Yalolo appeals for help from local businesses.
The club was founded two years ago, and has grown considerably over the last year, with almost 80 young players now registered.
Although the club received a new kit from GS Civils last year, their main problem now is funds for transport. "We have joined the Beyers Naudé Local Football Association, where we are grouped according to area with teams in Graaff-Reinet and Aberdeen," Yalolo explained.
"Nearly all our players are still at school, and most of their parents are unemployed, so they cannot afford the cost of over R100 per player to get to Graaff-Reinet by taxi."
Another pressing need is for a kit for away games, and more soccer balls for practices.
The club runs four teams in different age groups, including a girls' u. 15 team. They train on open ground near Luxolo School, and share the pitch in Thembalesizwe for matches with the other two Aberdeen teams.
The club gives a valuable opportunity to these youngsters, and provides an exciting activity to encourage them to enjoy sport rather than become involved in crime. The u. 19 league has already started, and the fixtures for the younger teams should be announced soon.
Any company or individual who can assist with sponsorship can contact Yalolo on 083 321 4431.
